A 60-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car while trying to cross a road in Pasadena, the Anne Arundel County Police Department said.

Police responded to Fort Smallwood Road near the intersection with Rugby Road for the report of a pedestrian struck.

The pedestrian, Raymond Leeson, of no fixed address, began crossing Fort Smallwood Road, not using the crosswalk, when he was struck by a 2014 Hyundai SUV traveling south on the road, police said.

The Hyundai's driver, 61-year-old Debra Arnold, of Pasadena, stopped immediately after striking Leeson, police said. Leeson was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore where he was listed in critical condition. Arnold was not injured.

Police said the crash was caused by Leeson crossing the road and failing to yield to roadway traffic. The incident is being investigated and the case will be reviewed by the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney.
