With signs in hand, Towson community members are planning on protesting at the Baltimore County Council Work Session on Tuesday.

Protestors want to voice their opposition to paying a private developer nearly $43-million for the Towson Row project. The plan is to build a big development in Towson that would include office buildings, a hotel, apartments, student housing, stores and a Whole Foods.

The County Council is expected to approve a proposal to use taxpayer dollars for private development at the meeting on Tuesday. Officials say they are giving the money for private development because the prospective lenders and the property owners are unable to fully finance the project without additional County support.

Some Towson taxpayers say this is a red flag because if two experienced developers cannot get funding for Towson Row, that is indicative of a problem. Taxpayers believe local lenders think the project is too risky, which is why they will not fund it.

The County has already spent a considerable amount of taxpayer money to upgrade the water and sewer capacity for the area.

Over 100 taxpayers are expected to attend the session at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
