A Montgomery County High School student will appear in court Tuesday after being arrested and charged with bringing a loaded gun and knife to school.
18-year-old Alwin Chen was arrested Thursday at Clarksburg High School, north of Gaithersburg, after a gun was found in his book bag and a knife in his pocket.
The school resource officers were tipped off that he had a weapon.
After the incident, a letter was sent to parents saying in part:
"This illegal and dangerous behavior will not be tolerated in our community. Any student caught with a weapon will be referred to law enforcement and punished accordingly."
Officials said Chen's lawyers are expected to argue that he should have a chance to post bond.
