New judge appointed to Frederick County District Court

A new judge was appointed to the Frederick County District Court by Governor Larry Hogan Thursday.

Eric William Schaffer will fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge O. John Cejka Jr. who retired in July. Schaffer was selected after interviews with several potential nominees. The appointment is effective immediately.

Prior to his appointment, Schaffer served as the principal partner at the firm Schaffer & Black, P.C., as the prosecutor for the Frederick County State's Attorney's Office, and as an assistant public defender for the Office of the Public Defender for Frederick and Washington Counties.

Schaffer served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He earned his juris doctor degree from Dickinson School of Law and his bachelor's of arts degree from Bucknell University.
